In 2006 over 40 countries worldwide had already adopted Nanotech Initiatives. By 2013, President Obama singled out nanotechnology in his State of the Union Address calling for the creation of a nationwide network to speed innovation and advanced manufacturing technologies and processes.
The key goal of U.S. nanotech policies in 2006 was to attract global nanotech R&D and manufacturing, to foster creation and growth of indigenous nanotech firms, and to create jobs. Progress has been made by launching the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute NAMII as a manufacturing consortium to become a global center of excellence. As Kelly Carnes recently stated, “nanotechnology will transform manufacturing and bring clean, high tech jobs back to the U.S.”
