Two years ago TechVision21 posted “The Importance of STEM Skills to a World Class Work Force” reporting on Department of Education funding.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) subjects are major building blocks of a quality education.
For years TechVision 21 has strongly supported STEM funding- a fundamental tool for building a world class work force in all sectors of the economy: private business, government and military.
STEM skills continue to receive wide attention and support. Just last month the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) hosted the first-ever White House State of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (SoSTEM) event. Nearly 100 students gathered to ask questions to some of the Nation’s top S&T innovators.
Following that event, on March 18th, OSTP Director John Holdren hosted a roundtable of professionals committed to improving the Nation’s corps of excellent STEM teachers. The discussion followed an announcement by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that it would donate $22.5 million toward the same goal.
The White House hopes to train 100,000 new math and science teachers in the next 10 years, and increase the number of students who earn undergraduate STEM degrees by 1 million over the next decade.
Investing in STEM skills is one of the best ways to ensure American innovation.
