Education & Workforce Development
Results

TechVision21’s workforce development projects have ranged from developing “Go to Market” strategies for the federal and non-profit marketplaces, to assistance in identifying and securing federal education and training grants, to providing research and strategic analysis on e-Learning, to developing partnerships and alliances with public and private sector organizations for competitive advantage. Our results include:

  • Helping BEST: Building Engineering and Science Talent—a public/private partnership dedicated to strengthening the U.S. science and engineering workforce—develop two chapters of an innovative report on ways technology-intensive employers can recruit, retain and advance women and minorities in technology careers. This effort builds on Kelly Carnes’ lead role in supporting the Congressionally mandated Commission on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering and Technology Development, the predecessor to the BEST organization.

  • Helping GWSolutions — a George Washington University enterprise — develop a Federal "Go to Market” strategy, identify and compete for multi-million opportunities in the federal education and training market, and build its federal brand and visibility in the marketplace.

  • Working with a partnership of the National Association of Manufacturers’ Center for Workforce Success, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Center for Workforce Preparation, and Jobs for the Future to develop a federally-funded pilot in three states designed to link employers and individuals more closely to the public workforce development system. To date, three states have been selected as national demonstration sites through an RFP process led by state-level “intermediary organizations” that are joint affiliates of NAM and the Chamber of Commerce.

  • Helping several Fortune 500 corporations identify grants for employee training and develop relationships with federal and state agencies that provide a platform for additional funding opportunities.

  • Working with Goodwill Industries International, Mary McCain developed and executed a national strategy targeting Congress, the Administration and influential national organizations to re-position Goodwill as a leader in workforce development, along with its well-known expertise in disability issues. The strategy incorporated the organization’s ongoing grassroots and national symposia on the workforce system, and culminated in a national meeting.

e-Learning

  • TechVision21 helped Thomson Learning, a global e-learning company, identify multi-million dollar business opportunities to sell e-learning products and services in the federal market.

  • At the request of the Center for Workforce Success of the National Association of Manufacturers, Mary McCain developed E-Learning: Are We in Transition or Are We Stuck?, a white paper on e-learning’s promise, current challenges and potential for transformation that informed discussions of policy and legislative options for key public and private sector organizations in Washington, DC.

  • Jobs for the Future commissioned Leapfrogging the Status Quo: e-Learning and the Challenge of Adult Literacy, a white paper to inform Congressional debate on re-authorization of adult education legislation.
