TechVision21 has helped numerous non-profit organizations perform cutting-edge research, develop influential reports, and make policy recommendations. Our results include:

  • Helping BEST: Building Engineering and Science Talent—a public/private partnership dedicated to strengthening the U.S. science and engineering workforce—develop two chapters of an innovative report on ways technology-intensive employers can recruit, retain and advance women and minorities in technology careers.

This effort builds on Kelly Carnes’ lead role in supporting the Congressionally mandated Commission on the Advancement of Women and Minorities in Science, Engineering and Technology Development, the predecessor to the BEST organization.

  • Helping the National Task Force on Technology and Disability develop a path-breaking report, Within Our Reach—and public advocacy agenda—to advance the widespread availability and use of universally designed products and assistive technology. Our work included creating a compelling “business case” showing that universal design and assistive technology deliver significant economic benefits, and developing recommendations for federal policy makers.

  • For Jobs for the Future, Mary McCain authored Leapfrogging the Status Quo: e-Learning and the Challenge of Adult Literacy, a white paper that identified more than 40 viable and publicly available e-learning tools, products and programs, and assessed their value for Americans with low levels of literacy.

To create this report, she consulted with more than 30 national subject matter experts in government, business and education.

  • Leading the early-stage development and incorporation of the Alliance for Science and Technology Research in America (ASTRA), a non-profit organization devoted to increasing Federal funding for physical sciences, mathematics and engineering research.

ASTRA is a unique alliance of industry, colleges and universities, professional societies and trade associations with diverse missions that share a common commitment to improving the nation’s investment in the physical sciences, mathematics and engineering research. We are continuing to help ASTRA develop and execute its research agenda, and pursue federal funding opportunities.

  • For the National Collaborative on Workforce and Disability for Youth, Mary McCain authored a white paper that identified professional requirements and options for training and certifications for frontline workers in the public sector workforce system who prepare youth and youth with disabilities for work.
