Privacy and Information Policy
Evan Hendricks is an expert affiliate of TechVision21, recognized
globally for his extensive knowledge and expertise on privacy issues.
Since 1977, Mr. Hendricks has written extensively on privacy and
freedom of information law, first as Editor of the newsletter
Access Reports, and since 1981, as Publisher and Editor of
the Privacy Times, a bi-weekly newsletter based in Washington,
D.C. Mr. Hendricks is also the author of two seminal
publications, Your Right To Privacy and Former Secrets,
a compilation of 500 examples of significant disclosures to the
public under the Federal government's Freedom of Information
Act.
Mr. Hendricks has provided consulting services to a wide range of
organizations that had one thing in common: they wanted to "get
privacy right." These included Fortune 500 companies,
emerging companies, Federal and state agencies and professional
and trade associations. For example, since 1998, Mr. Hendricks
has served on a three member Panel of Privacy Experts advising
the Social Security Administration on a host of issues concerning
its operations, including the appropriate balance between privacy,
access and disclosure. In 2000, Mr. Hendricks advised the Multi-State
Tax Commission regarding privacy principles for the "Streamlined
Sales Tax System" then under consideration.
Mr. Hendricks has assisted the Office of the Canadian Privacy
Commissioner and the Australian Human Rights & Equal
Opportunity Commission in formulating their national privacy
and information policies, drawing from the American experience.
Mr. Hendricks also has served as an expert witness in several cases
involving the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Hendricks, a native of Portland, Oregon, is a graduate of Columbia
University.
Mr.
Hendricks regularly lectures on privacy and information policy
issues in the U. S., Canada and Europe. Some of his recent
lectures and expert presentations include Harvard
University's Kennedy School of Government; the Brookings
Institution; the 23rd Annual Conference of Data Protection
Commissioners (Paris, FranceLa Sorbonne University,
2001), the 22d Annual Conference of Data Protection Commissioners
(Venice, Italy, 2000); the 16th Annual Conference on Data
Protection in The Hague, The Netherlands; and the Reed
College Lecture Series on Privacy and Censorship.
National media turn to Mr. Hendricks when they need an
expert spokesman on FOIA and privacy issues. He has been
interviewed by the Oprah Winfrey Show, Geraldo,
ABC Nightline and World News Tonight, NBC Nightly
News, CBS Evening News, CNN News Watch, The
Washington Post, New York Times, Wall Street Journal,
and radio talk shows such as KABC (Ray Briem, Los Angeles),
KFI (Tom Likus, Los Angeles), WLS (both Tom Johnson
and Bob Wade), Scams Across America (Business Radio Network,
