Director, Public Affairs
Cheryl Mendonsa has spent over 20 years in Washington, D.C. including ten on Capitol Hill where she worked in the personal office of Congressman George E. Brown, Jr. as well as the Science, Space and Technology Committee.
During her Congressional tenure, Cheryl also worked as the Congressional liaison for ABC’s television series entitled “Capital to Capital” which featured American and Russian parliamentarians as panelists for a live, unedited broadcast series. With Senators and Members of Congress serving as the steering committee, Cheryl served as the liaison among her Russian counterparts, Members of Congress and ABC news out of New York. Cheryl worked on show topics, choosing and briefing panelists as well as transforming Congressional hearing rooms into broadcast studios. The show was aired simultaneously in the United States and the former Soviet Union and was hosted by the late Peter Jennings. The series won an Emmy for technical achievement.
After the series ended, Cheryl became the first Director of Video Conferencing on Capitol Hill and used this emerging technology to bring in long distance witnesses to testify electronically before Congress.
Cheryl then took the position as Director of Public Affairs at the Technology Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce where she worked, managed a small staff on press and event planning for the National Medal of Technology, a White House award given annually by the President of the United States to the nation’s leading technology innovators. She also worked with Warner Bros., and Women in Film to produce television and radio public service announcements for Get Tech, a program aimed at middle school students stressing the importance of math and science education.
Prior to moving to Washington, D.C, Cheryl worked as a radio and magazine reporter in Riverside, California. She is currently the President of the Aurora Highlands Civic Association, a tutor at Oakridge Elementary School, and a volunteer for the panda exhibit at the National Zoo.
