WASHINGTON - House and Senate conferees agreed to legislation establishing 2006 funding levels for science-related agencies and the Departments of State, Justice, and Commerce. Despite Bush Administration efforts to eliminate the Advanced Technology Program, it received $80 million, while the Manufacturing Extension Partnership received $106 million. A summary of the other major programs follows:
Overall
The recommendation for the FY 06 SSJC bill is $51.8 billion in budget authority. The discretionary spending level is $48.4 billion. This is $600 million above the FY05 funding level and $1.5 billion above the budget request, excluding the Strengthening America's Communities Initiative.
Justice: $21.7 billion
$5.8 billion for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI): $620.7 million above the FY05 level, excluding emergency supplemental appropriations.
$1.7 billion for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA): $47.6 million above the FY05 level.
- $1.6 billion for the United States Attorneys (USA): $73.2 million above the FY05 level.
- $801.9 million for the United States Marshals Service (USMS): $42.4 million above the FY05 level.
- $4.99 billion for the Bureau of Prisons (BOP): $206.3 million above the FY05 level.
