Manufacturing USA: Critical to the Nation’s Manufacturing Leadership Strategy

Many small companies, start-ups, and university researchers have promising innovations, but lack either the technical expertise, access to expensive and sophisticated equipment and facilities, and/or financial resources needed to demonstrate, test, and pilot produce their inventions. The institutes take aim at this gap, providing shared manufacturing facilities, and working to bring new technologies to a higher level of readiness and lowering their risk to a level that can attract private investment, move them toward commercialization and deployment, and drive job creation.

President Signs American Innovation and Competitiveness Act

On January 6, President Obama signed the American Innovation and Competitiveness Act, incorporating a number of bills and the America COMPETES Reauthorization Act. That the bill made it to the President’s desk was a surprise to many, and was saved by 11th hour negotiations in the Senate, securing bi-partisan support in both chambers.
